Hidden Orchestra is the solo studio project of multi-instrumentalist composer / producer Joe Acheson, currently based in Brighton (UK). For Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival, Joe presents Reorchestrations, a new 2-piece (electronics/drums) live project inspired by his remixes - mostly of classical, folk and jazz pieces reworked in the signature Hidden Orchestra style. He will be creating live improvised 'remixes' of his own material on stage, sampling and effecting the drums of Hidden drummer Jamie Graham, to create new spontaneous versions of Hidden Orchestra tracks, using a mixture of samples, synths, drums, and innovative live-sampling/looping techniques. The Hidden Orchestra album recordings feature a wide variety of guest musicians from different musical backgrounds, recorded separately, and combined by Joe to create an 'imaginary orchestra' that doesn't really exist. The music combines all the different musical traditions Joe has been involved in – years of Classical training (composing from an early age, singing in choirs and playing in orchestras), whilst at the same time playing in all kinds of bands and ensembles, DJing and producing. By tapping into the energy of virtuoso drum solos and adding music and sounds that are dark and beautiful, he creates haunting and uplifting electronic music made without synthesisers – using only acoustic instruments, drums, field recordings and natural sounds to build intense, beat-driven classical textures with layers of energy, emotion and atmosphere. The Reorchestrations show allows Joe and Jamie to reinterpret this wealth of material in a live improvised setting, using spoken word, field recordings, and layers of looped percussion to weave together a seamless 'live mixtape' of improvised beats and orchestral textures.
