Born in Tokyo, raised in Japan and Hong Kong, educated in Boston and based in Copenhagen, Makiko Hirabayashi is a multicultural artist with roots in classical music and jazz. Critics have considered her trio, featuring former Miles Davis Group percussionist Marilyn Mazur, as a significant voice on the international jazz scene since its first album in 2006. The trio is known for the lively interaction between its members and intense compositions with an exceptional narrative skill, where elements of jazz, classical music, sounds of the Far East and Scandinavian moods make up a very personal yet fascinating idiom.
