Maris Briezkalns Quintet

MBQ is one of the leading and most interesting small acoustic – and mainstream – acts of the Latvian jazz scene. He somehow specializes in pop jazz or Latin jazz repertoire and has appeared in many jazz stages and festivals in Europe and America to date... In 2005 Maris Briezkalns and his friends made their first album, which was titled "Latvian Evergreens" , without imagining that such a thing could continue. 

But now MBQ has a second volume - and it's as impressive, witty and beautiful as the first. Some of his pieces have a mystery to them - yet others are instantly recognizable. But all of them, freed from the shelves of archives and history, experience a second life... The leader of the group is the drummer and producer Maris Briezkalns. He has experience as a manager of the recording studios of the Latvian Radio and as a drummer of its large orchestra for many years, with which he has participated in numerous recordings. He has given many master classes and has appeared in many countries in Europe, America and Asia. He directs the Contemporary Music Center and organizes the international jazz festival "Rigas Ritmi" as well as the competition for jazz musicians "Sony Jazz Stage"
