Benni Chawes

Benni Chawes (Denmark)

The singer Benni Chawes, comes from a musical family and began to be introduced to the art from a very young age. While graduating as a pianist with honors from Boston's renowned Berklee School of Music, he decided to pursue a career as a singer. His voice made him stand out and, after living in the US for over six years, he returned to Denmark where, at the same time, he began writing songs. In his compositions he mixes jazz, soul and pop, creating soft, warm music, with an emotionality that suits his classic crooner voice, establishing a style that brings him close to modern vocal jazz. In October 2006 he released the album 'Up Close', produced by Chris Minh Doky - which also includes some duets with singer Malene Mortensen. This disc was a remarkable success and was warmly received by the critics, as a result of which Chawes is counted among the distinguished faces of the international jazz scene. In January 2007 the album 'Bang & Olufsen Proudly Presents: Benni Chawes' was released, featuring the late bassist Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen.
