Is it Future Jazz? Is it Jazztronica? Trying to cram the music of this Berlin collective into neat little boxes and well-worn formulas is a lost cause, a futile exercise in musical bureaucracy. The nu-jazz quintet Conic Rose use mystical loops to create a cinematic experience without a screen in sight, where time expands, the world slows down and night reclaims its dominion. The release of Heller Tag in 2023 rightfully drew the attention of BBC Radio 6, Mojo and Jazzwise to their eclectic, zeitgeisty influences, from J.S. Bach and Krautrock to the silences of Thom Yorke and the downtempo beats of Bonobo. They are coming to Athens Jazz at the top of their game, with their fresh album wedding and ready to dive head first into this year’s summer music festival season.
