Erik Vermeulen Trio (Belgium)

Erik Vermeulen is an important performer of the Belgian jazz and improvisational music scene. In addition to his own compositions, he performed and recorded with many Belgian and international musicians, such as Toots Thielemans, Steve Grossman, Clark Terry, etc. The recent release of the triple CD “Inner City” (included in the ten CD collection entitled “Finest in Belgian Jazz”, De Werf 2002), with Eric Surmenian on double bass and Marek Patrman on percussion, received rave reviews both at home and abroad. This new and rapidly evolving trio is characterized by a wide range of inspiration and a wide variety of sounds. Personal compositions alternate with improvisations and selected jazz genres. The polyphonic combination of the piano performance, which emphasizes timbre, the double bass tuned in fifths and the varied rhythms of the percussion will take the listeners on a journey to a variety of musical landscapes.
