Photography exhibition Women in Jazz
The Women in Jazz photography exhibition highlights the female-related work from three passionate photographers of music and the performing arts. It reflects the efforts of three very different but fully dedicated and committed photographers, to capture some female artists in their moments of significant artistic excellence, the ones that the memory of an event or a performance, usually cannot withhold. Those of a fervent and enthusiastic amateur (Thrassos Irinis) and two distinctive professionals (Spyros Vangelakis & Costas Broumas).
Even if women still remain a minority in the jazz world (and beyond), audiences will always be enchanted by them and their presence on stage. The persistent and insightful lens, through the hungry photographer’s eye, at the right timing becomes the sensor of those fine artistic moments and the seductive magic they lavishly have to offer. Often through playful situations in luminous conditions, other times battling the shadows but always in an improvisational mode, both on the performer’s end, as well as the eager eyes of the photographer. Thus, in a strange and unpredictable manner - through those special moments - the photographer finds himself bonding with the distinctive artistic nature of the women he deifies. Imprinted emotional reflections on a wall, with moments that will live on forever.
