Maria João Quartet

The world-renowned singer of the world jazz scene, Maria Joao from Portugal, started her involvement with jazz in the early 80's, making impressive artistic strides in a short period of time. Her duets with the Japanese pianist Aki Takase caused a special sensation. In the early 90s she formed the group Cal Viva with the aim of highlighting her deep connection with the folk music of her homeland. This approach established her as one of the best jazz singers. In each of her musical ventures, she experiments with new means of expression, while each of her concert or recording appearances is a special experience for her fans.
