The Outward bound trio is a partnership of three musicians from Crete (Greece). Coming from different areas of music, they are looking for a common field through improvisation, exploring the possibilities of combining the sounds of the piano (Antonis Tsikandilakis) with the electric guitar (Dimitris Neonakis) and drums (Yiannis Iliakis). The scheme aims to create free forms, open to the time and density of musical events. The themes, phrases, improvisation and pauses are allowed to develop in a multitude of musical moods (from neo-romanticism to contemporary European jazz, and sometimes from free experimentation in ambient and rock passages) without losing their musical identity. The collaboration of the trio with Kostas Theodorou has started since the winter of 2009. Working on old and new material, the four musicians aim to come together compositionally with a common aesthetic code as a starting point and a common need for expression through free improvisatio.
