Purple is the Color

Purple is the Color started out in Linz, but their explorations of the fine line between classic compositional form and raw improvisational freedom soon earned them a place on the international jazz scene. Led by pianist Simon Raab, the quartet’s unique sound seamlessly blends nu-jazz aesthetics with contemporary world influences and subtle lyricism. From their 2017 debut album Unmasked to their 2020 EP Epic, the band is in a constant process of evolution, living up to their reputation as one of the most innovative and inventive bands on the contemporary jazz scene. Their participation in major festivals like Jazzahead! and the accolades they’ve won in various competitions prove that the future is theirs. Purple is the Color are not afraid to wander into the uncharted territory between the spontaneous and the deliberate, the familiar and the unknown, making contemporary jazz more direct and approachable than ever.
