The 24th Athens Jazz is dedicated to the memory of Giorgos Charonitis

Athens Jazz bids farewell with deep sorrow to a legendary figure of music journalism, a remarkable collaborator and beloved friend, Giorgos Charonitis, who passed away in April 2025.

Giorgos Charonitis was a member of the Athens Jazz artistic committee since 2015, but his relationship with the festival was far more substantial and long-lasting. Mentor and kindred spirit, he supported the festival from its earliest steps, suggesting artists and groups, curating content and helping to shape its artistic identity. His contribution was invaluable, always guided by his love for jazz and his desire to highlight and promote it.

For two decades, he was the editor of the magazine “Jazz & Τζαζ”, one of the most important voices for music in Greece. With his boundless knowledge, passion, and dedication, he inspired generations of music lovers and shaped the way we talk and write about jazz in Greece.

The 24th Athens Jazz is dedicated to the memory of Giorgos Charonitis. With gratitude and deep respect, we promise to continue his work — to honor music the way he taught us: with knowledge, sensitivity, and genuine love.
