Haris Lambrakis Quartet

Haris Lambrakis Quartet, (Greece)

How do you play modal jazz and sound like you're speaking the language of the East? The answer to this question, which contains a fundamental contrast, can only be given by the music and the playing style of the Haris Lambrakis quartet. The quartet of Haris Lambrakis is a collaboration of four musicians with common references, but also with a remarkable career as soloists. The starting point for everyone is the modal jazz of the 1960s and 1970s, improvisation and the traditional music of the wider Eastern Mediterranean region. Influences from John Coltrane and Bill Evans, but also inspiration from western harmonies, rhythms and melodies, are obvious. However, the band's great musical weapon is that it manages to sound like the most modern group of the Greek jazz scene, with a solid, new, creative sound, which is the result of osmosis of various musical elements, styles and influences, but where you cannot distinguish the individual "building materials". Their music, in short, is a vindication of the concept of "pure creation".
